Leadership and Collaboration

Teachers should collaborate with other teachers, parents, administrators, and professionals to ensure learner growth, and to further master the profession. The teacher should give as well as receive feedback on practices. The teacher should embrace the challenges that come with continuous improvement and adaption.

This standard ensures that teachers are open to new perspectives and accepting of criticism that will further improve instruction. It is important that educators communicate with colleagues, to gain more experience and opinions.

Department MeetingsĀ

During my student teaching internship, I participated in weekly department meetings. The 7th grade English teachers and administrator would meet and discuss what students were learning for the week and the highs and lows of specific lessons. This collaborative reflection was helpful in planning for the following week. We also discussed long-term plans for field trips and community activities.

Parent/Teacher ConferencesĀ

I was able to participate in student/teacher conferences with my 9th grade student teaching class. I observed my mentor teacher and provided input when necessary. We communicated with parents about their student’s strengths in the classroom as well as their individual needs as a learner.
